Shovelling your Driveway
I don't have a snow blower and I don't pay someone to shovel my driveway. This is rare in my neighbourhood, in fact, I may be the only one who shovels my driveway. My driveway could fit about 10 cars on it, and it can take from 10 minutes to 1.5 hours to clear it depending on the amount of snow.
The benefits of shovelling your driveway are physical activity, being outside, and a driveway without snow. However, even when I explain these reasons most people don't understand and think it is a waste of time. But, it is only a waste of time if I have something better to do.
So, what is that something better that I could be doing? Is it watching Netflix, YouTube, a movie, playing a sport, reading a book? How are any of those things better than shovelling my driveway? There is a country song by Alabama that has stuck with me over the years, it goes like this:
I'm in a hurry to get things doneWe are in such a hurry in this life that we often don't ask why? What is the purpose? What are we going to do with the extra time we save from technological advances? Is it better or worse than what we were doing before?
Oh I rush and rush until life's no fun
All I really gotta do is live and die
But I'm in a hurry and don't know why.
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of time, because the days are evil (Eph. 5:15).
