Is Anybody Listening?

If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart? (The Gulag Archipelago, pg. 168)
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn understood something that America desperately needs to understand today. Evil is not only found in other people it is found in ourselves. God says, "The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately sick; who can understand it. (Jer. 17:9)" We impute the purists of motives to ourselves and the worst to our opponents, even though we should all recognize the frailty of our own hearts. The end result is no one is listening.

There does not seem to be any middle ground and I don't mean a compromise between two radically opposing world views. Rather, I am referring to people who make an effort to get the basic facts before making an opinion. Unfortunately, most people only listen to their favoured news source and don't get any other perspective. It is one thing for someone to disagree after they have all the facts, but it is another thing all together for someone to disagree when they don't know the basic facts. Unfortunately, it is the uninformed or misinformed who disagree most vehemently. It is too bad people have turned their back on God, because we need His wisdom urgently:
A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion. (Prov. 18:2)
If one gives an answer before he hears it is his folly and shame. (Prov. 18:13)
The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him. (Prov. 18:17)
The pages of history are filled with violent revolutions and we are on the brink of one more. Those who think humanity is progressing and that we are beyond violence are forgetting that it is the name of progress that almost all revolutions take place. In fact the definition for revolution according to Google is, "a forcible overthrow of a government or social order in favour of a new system." Humanity on its own can only progress as far as the human heart and the human heart is still the same.
The violence of the wicked will sweep them away, because they refuse to do what is just. (Prov. 21:7)
