Secularist and their Religion of Popularity and their Virtue of Pride

There has been a lot in the news lately about being "on the right side of history." This is an admirable goal, but in our current context it seems little more than the cry of a bully. History is a great teacher because it gives us perspective over time. The things that have stood the test of time are more important and more likely true than those things that have not.

There is only one sure way to be on the right side of history and that is to follow the norms that history has already taught us. Participating in the LGBT movement is not a guarantee of being on the right side of history, in fact, it is quite the opposite since marriage has historically been defined as being between a man and a woman. We don't and can't determine history.

It is really not about being on the right side of history, it is about being popular. All of the "cool" kids are telling everybody to get on board or be left behind. Most people want to be popular and so blindly follow along. Just because something is popular does not mean it is right, history tells us that over and over again. Hitler was popular in Germany, but that was not the right side of history.

This new movement of being on the right side of history, involves, forcing people to do things against their conscience, loss of jobs, fines, and public shaming. This is a movement of intolerance and power, not of love and peace. There is no respect for those with different views or any attempt to accommodate.  But, this is typical of popularity, which is the historical religion of choice.

Movements come and go, but the drive to be popular is constant. It is constant because it is not really about popularity, it is about feeling that we are important. If everybody is looking down on us we feel worthless. On the flip side, when we look down on other people we feel important because we think we are "better" than them which by another name is pride. Pride is the virtue of the religion of Popularity.

Trying to be on the "right side of history" is the secularist attempt to define what is right and wrong. Although they decry religion outwardly they can't help but smuggle it in the backdoor. Is history their god that we all must bow down and worship? It is kind of ironic that even secularist can't help but live like there is a God much to their protest. It is unfortunate that their pride prevents them from worshipping Him.
