Being thankful is like a wonder drug, but without the harmful side effects. We are told to be thankful in all situations. It is God's will for your life.
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thess. 5:17).
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ (Phil. 4:6-7).Thanksgiving is an act of worship towards God that brings Him Glory:
For it is for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God (2 Cor. 4:15).Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honour and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen (Rev. 7:12).
However, if we are not careful thanksgiving is replaced by filthiness, futility, and foolishness:
Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving (Eph. 5:4).
For although they knew God, they did not honour him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened (Rom. 1:21).We must always remember to be thankful because the alternative has side effects, and then we may even need a real drug to cope with our circumstances.
