Made-to-Order Religion - The oldest religion around.
The most fascinating people are those who believe that "God" exists, but don't subscribe to any religion. They sometimes claim that all religions lead to the same "God, " or that "God" is a combination of all religions.
However, the one thing every human must admit is that they are not God, and therefore they must look for the knowledge of God outside of themselves. But claiming that all religions are equal or parts of a whole is a claim to know what God is like, which is a religion itself. It is a religion of One where personal preference, experience, and supremacy determine reality. This kind of religion should be the easiest to know it is not true, but it seems that it is one of the fastest growing religions in the western world. There are many different monotheistic religions in the world, but one thing they all have in common is that they look for God outside of their own experience, at least the followers.
This made-to-order religion has existed since Adam and Eve:
You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil (Gen. 3:4-5).This is exactly what most people are like. They want to be like God so they can determine what is good and evil. That way they can act however they want and do their own will instead of God's. Ultimately, this is the battle that goes on inside each of us. But, we know how this battle ends:
And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of water of life without payment. The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son. But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death (Rev. 21:6-8)."Those who truly want to know God, who are thirsty, will find Him and He will give them eternal life, but those who only want to worship themselves will end up in the lake of fire.
