Abortion a sign for the Watchmen

What is it that causes a group of human being to wipe out another group of human beings? Although it is difficult to ascertain the exact reason, it almost always occurs that one group of human beings considers another group to be less than human. Two examples of this are the Holocaust, and the Rwandan Genocide. In both of these genocides the killers would refer to their victims as animals, such as, rats and cockroaches, which demonstrated their view of them.

Living in a developed country we look at these situations and think that they could never happen here, overlooking the fact that we have more blood on our hands than any other society before us. Some estimate that as many as 42 million babies are aborted each year in the world. The total of the Holocaust is only around 5-6 million and  the Rwandan Genocide is only about 800,000. These numbers pale in comparison to those of abortion. Why is it that we don't consider ourselves as barbaric people? Like those of other genocides we don't consider a fetus to be human. We may not call them rats or cockroaches but we still do not call them human. Because this evil is perpetrated in sterilized medical practices out of sight our consciences are lulled to sleep. When does human life began the question is asked? Does it occur only when the baby is born, like it was not human 2 seconds before it came out? The common sense of a caveman could answer that question, but we in our modernity cannot.

Those of us who are Christians must stand up against this evil! It does not mean we need to picket abortion clinics, but it does mean we need to stop having abortions. We need to spread the word that abortions are wrong, no matter what law is put in place, that a baby is human even though it is the womb. We do not need to condemn those who have had abortions to Hell or look down upon them. We are part of this society and need to help those who are blind to see. Their sins will be upon our heads if we do not speak up. As Ezekiel the prophet said, "but if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand (Ezek. 33:6)."
